No matter how healthy sauerkraut is, even it has contraindications.
It strengthens the immune system, is good for the intestinal microflora, and is also a tasty snack and practical preparation. And only in two cases can it cause harm.
Dietitian Elena Solomatina told Moscow 24 in an interview who shouldn’t eat sauerkraut.
Firstly, gastrointestinal diseases
The expert does not recommend eating the snack if you have gastrointestinal diseases.
That is, if irritations are bothering you, gastritis or pancreatitis, enterocolitis or ulcers have been diagnosed, as well as any damage to the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa.
The fact is that the product contains acid and fiber, and in the case of the listed diseases they will not bring any benefit and can aggravate the disease, causing an exacerbation.
Secondly, the thyroid gland
If you have problems with your thyroid gland, in particular hypothyroidism, fermented foods can partially block the production of hormones and slow down its work.
In other cases, sauerkraut can be eaten every day.
It strengthens the immune system, improves digestion, saturates and promotes weight loss.
As for the norm of consumption, in the absence of contraindications, this is an individual matter.
