Not all cereals have a negative impact on blood glucose levels, as was commonly believed some time ago.
Nevertheless, this idea took hold and spread with the speed of a myth that has no scientific basis.
Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg and rehabilitation specialist Sergei Agapkin spoke about which cereals are exceptionally beneficial for health on the air of the program “About the Most Important Thing”.
Harmful cereals
As nutritionist Ginzburg noted, rice and semolina porridge increase blood sugar levels.
The glycemic index of these dishes is considered high.
In addition, the named cereals are rich in fast carbohydrates, while other cereals contain slow carbohydrates.
Healthy porridges
Among others, experts name barley porridge.
Unlike other foods, it regulates glucose levels.
As for the very emergence of the myth about the harmful effect of porridge on glucose levels, the presenters noted the carbohydrate content in them.
It was previously reported that experts consider buckwheat porridge to be the healthiest.
It has a beneficial effect on the body due to its high level of fiber.
