It is impossible to imagine losing weight without drinking smoothies. Some people even consider it their favorite drink.
However, is it worth spending time and effort on preparing it if you can drink juice or just eat a whole fruit or vegetable?
Nutritionist Zhanna Korobaynikova told Radio 1 whether smoothies are really that healthy.
It turns out that the dietary benefits of smoothies are a myth.
What is a smoothie
A smoothie is a drink made from berries, fruits, vegetables, and greens crushed in a blender.
Smoothies differ from juice (fresh juice) in the content of pulp.
Harm of smoothies
But the presence of fiber is not a reason to consider smoothies a dietary product that can be drunk at any time.
For example, when you chop up healthy fruits and berries, the amount of fiber decreases, and the finished drink turns into a “carbohydrate bomb.”
Therefore, drinking smoothies increases glucose and can cause a “powerful insulin response.”
It is also important to remember that to prepare one glass of the drink you will need more fruits or berries than the daily norm. This is already dangerous.
In addition, when consuming smoothies, food is not digested, which affects metabolic processes.
Smoothie or juice
Smoothies are better than juice. But better than both is whole fruit.
You can drink smoothies only for variety, as a snack or as a supplement to your main diet, provided that your diet is balanced.
