In the course of large-scale research, scientists have discovered which diet maintains women's health and prolongs life.
Exceptional features were found in the Mediterranean diet. Remarkably, more than 25 thousand women were observed for 25 years.
Research details
Scientists collected data on the volunteers' health status from 1993 to 1996. The analysis of the information obtained was carried out in the period 2018-2023.
The volunteers' health status was assessed using standard blood tests and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
The results of the work were published in the scientific journal JAMA Network Open.
Research Results
The risk of health-related death in women who followed the Mediterranean diet was reduced by 23%.
Among other causes, the researchers also noted cancer and heart disease.
The main benefits of the diet were associated with the absence of excess weight, diabetes, inflammation and normal metabolism.
Volunteers' diet
The women's diet consisted of such essential food groups as an abundance of fruits and vegetables (except potatoes), nuts, whole grains, fish and seafood, poultry, eggs and dairy products.
At the same time, women were advised to limit their consumption of red meat.
