Anton Brykin, a doctor at the Hemotest laboratory, explained the difference between “bad” and “good” cholesterol and the main differences between these concepts.
The expert reminds that cholesterol belongs to the category of fat-soluble substances that are found in every cell of the human body.
The Izvestia newspaper reports Brykin’s message that only 80% of cholesterol is processed by the liver – the remaining 20% enters the body.
The doctor notes that “good” and “bad” cholesterol are the same substance, but they differ in quality, which is determined by lipoproteins.
“Good” cholesterol is contained in high-density lipoproteins, which easily pass through the vessels, while “bad” cholesterol accumulates inside the vessels.
Which foods contain a lot of "bad" cholesterol:
- butter – 100 grams contains up to 185 mg of cholesterol;
- meat by-products, sausages and frankfurters, as well as brains, liver, mayonnaise and egg yolk;
- high-fat cheese – it is recommended to consume less feta, feta and mozzarella.
