When under stress, a person may begin to “eat away” emotions and problems.
If overeating is associated with psychological problems, then it can be difficult to cope with it on your own.
Nutritionist Elena Sviridova spoke in more detail about the problem, writes the publication Izvestia .
She noted that psychological overeating often causes a feeling of guilt. As a result, the person goes to the refrigerator again because he feels bad.
But how to distinguish real hunger from emotional? It's simple. Real physical hunger is indicated by a rumbling in the stomach, weakness, and unpleasant sensations. If it's about emotional hunger, it is connected with thoughts, a person first thinks about food, and only then starts eating, but does not always understand that he is not really hungry.
Sviridova recommended not to be led by emotions. If you want to have a snack, you should ask yourself whether nuts, fruits, salads or other healthy food will help in the fight against hunger. If the answer is no, then it is emotional hunger.
The problem can be dealt with. It is important to learn to recognize and express emotions, rather than eat them away. You also need to work with emotions to understand what exactly causes dissatisfaction and makes you overeat.
It is advisable to consider new ways to combat stress. These could be walks, hobbies, communication with loved ones, hot baths, etc.
