When preparing boiled potatoes, many experienced cooks throw a slice of lemon into the boiling water.

This is done to create an acidic environment. But why does the nightshade need the latter?

This question was answered by the expert of the online publication Belnovosti in the field of cooking, chef, fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova.

Why boil potatoes with a slice of lemon

It is unlikely that any gourmet will like watery and overcooked potatoes.

To avoid this culinary mishap, the water needs to be slightly acidified.

As soon as the liquid in the pan boils, throw in a lemon wedge (one piece is enough for one and a half liters of water).

Thanks to the acidic additive, the potatoes will retain their shape, will not burst, will not be overcooked, will not fall apart, and will not turn out watery and tasteless.

And you don’t need to worry that the lemon will ruin the dish.

On the contrary, a piece of citrus fruit will “give” the boiled potato an interesting flavor note that will surely appeal to many lovers of good food. Be sure to try it!
