Socialization is a natural phenomenon in the life of every person, including a child, but it does not always happen painlessly.
A parent tries to do everything to make their child happy, but, unfortunately, they are surrounded not only by family members, says Ekaterina Bugrova, a family and child psychologist.
What should you do if your child has gotten involved in an undesirable company or simply met a friend who, in your opinion, is a bad influence on him? Should you forbid your child to communicate with him?
"You become like the people you hang out with." It's no secret that friends can have a huge impact on a child. So why not become their friend?
The most important thing is not to prevent him from “stumbling”, because only through trial and error does your child’s personality become stronger.
For what reasons can a child be influenced by peers?
The most common of them are:
- low self-esteem;
- unfavorable environment at home, difficult relationships with parents;
- lack of hobbies that could improve his emotional health.
Prohibition is the last resort we can take, as it can cause a child to rebel. Also, do not forget that "forbidden fruit is sweet."
If you understand that communication with a so-called friend is dangerous for your child, try these methods.
- Analyze your child's life. What does he do? Is there an opportunity to do sports or creative work? Suggest that he go to some section where he can find communication with more successfully developed peers who have a positive mindset.
- Be an example for your child. You are the person your child imitates. Communicate more often and treat everything with understanding. This is how he will trust you more, and you will be aware of all his events.
- Maintain healthy family relationships and respect his personal boundaries.
Everything comes from childhood, and if you communicate more with your child, support him and give advice rather than instructions, it will only get easier!
