The keto diet is a diet based on high protein and fat intake and low carbohydrate intake.

Alexey Isupov, nutritionist, member of the public association "Nutritionists of Russia", explained what the keto diet is.

It has become very popular lately, especially among those who want to lose weight. Even many doctors now, especially on the Internet, like to tell people about the "miracles" of the keto diet.

And the most important thing is that it is really possible to achieve results on the keto diet and most likely you will really lose excess weight, but sad consequences cannot be avoided either.

The first thing to understand is that the keto diet is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It may be effective for some people, but harmful for others. Each organism is unique and requires an individual approach.

One of the main arguments against the keto diet is that it can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy and also contain many important nutrients. If consumed in insufficient quantities, they can lead to serious health problems.

Even if a person simply removes a certain group of products from their diet, for example, cereals (after reading about the terrible gluten on the Internet), the person will already be depriving themselves of a large layer of nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

And if he removes carbohydrates almost completely for a week or two, then no one knows how his body will react to this. Carbohydrates are several groups of products (cereals, legumes, vegetables, fruits).

If you remove one food group, how can you create your diet so as not to deprive your body of the substances it needs that were contained in the eliminated group?

Additionally, the keto diet may increase cholesterol levels and the risk of developing heart disease. Increased levels of fats in the blood can lead to plaque buildup on the walls of arteries, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

It may also be that a person has been on such a diet for a month, lost weight and lives happily on, and most importantly, advises everyone to lose weight in this way now.

But! We must understand that the consequences of such a diet may surface after a long time. And the weight may return. Everyone is individual, so one will be lucky and will not have time to get diseases, and another will end up in the hospital after a couple of such diets.

Another negative aspect of the keto diet is that it can lead to metabolic disorders.

The body begins to produce ketones, products of fat breakdown that can accumulate in the blood and cause various health problems.

The body begins to feed on ketones, it has nowhere to get glucose from, and our cells have the ability to switch to obtaining energy from ketones. Fats, in turn, release toxic substances when they break down.

If we correctly calculate the required amount of fats for our body, then there will be no harm to health, but if we switch to only fats, then, as you already understood, the body will begin to be poisoned by the decay products of the latter.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that the keto diet can be effective for weight loss, but it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting this diet, you should consult with your doctor and make sure that it will not harm your health.

It is also worth taking tests before, during and after the diet. And carefully monitor the function of the liver and kidneys with tests, if suddenly the indicators become abnormal, stop experimenting on yourself.

It’s even better to contact a qualified nutritionist right away so that he can explain what’s what and how to do it correctly in order to lose weight and, most importantly, not harm your health.
