It is generally accepted that there is nothing complicated about slicing tomatoes.

The procedure is actually quite simple. There are just some nuances. One of them is the correct placement of the tomato.

Many amateur cooks make a gross mistake: they place the tomato on a cutting board with the stem facing up and start cutting the vegetable.

But before slicing, the fruit must be placed with the stem down!

The expert of the online publication Belnovosti in the field of cooking, chef, fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova explained why this point is so important.

Consequences of improperly slicing tomatoes

If you turn a tomato standing with its stem up into “plates”, the vegetable will most likely lose a lot of juice.

In addition, the fruit will lose a considerable amount of pulp.

Instead of tasty and juicy slices, the cook will get unappetizing-looking, uneven and not the most aromatic pieces.

This is why, before cutting, you need to make sure that the stalk of the vegetable on the cutting board is at the bottom.

Earlier, the expert explained why you shouldn’t stir potatoes with a spatula while frying.
