Dogs are land animals, and unlike cats, they are practically indifferent to fish. But here's the paradox: cats love fish, but they don't like water. Dogs enjoy swimming.
Scientists became interested in how dogs learned to swim and why they needed it.
According to experts, for most dog breeds, the ability to swim is an innate quality.
Swimming for them is both entertainment and a form of physical activity. And the skill developed through evolution.
Who taught the dog to swim
No one taught except Mother Nature, or natural selection.
The ancient ancestors of modern dogs, living in areas where there were plenty of bodies of water, were forced to learn to swim in order to find food.
Researchers also tend to believe that sometimes it was easier for a dog to overcome an obstacle by swimming than to go around it.
Another circumstance that points to the evolutionary path is the shape of the dog's body, its weight, and also its thick fur, which keeps the animal afloat.
You can also notice the movements of the paws, which help the dog move in the water in the right direction.
And some dogs can even hold their breath while diving to depth.
And, of course, it is impossible not to note that most dogs simply love to swim.
