How to Stop Compulsive Thinking and Overcome Insomnia
There are three ways to stop compulsive thinking.
- Perform some monotonous mental actions: count from 100 to 1, for example. The brain will get tired and turn off the critical component, and you will fall asleep.
- Shift your focus from the thoughts swarming in your head to what you feel in your body. This is a kind of body meditation, when you focus on several parts of your body and feel, for example, two palms, two feet and the top of your head, plus watch your breathing. At this time, the brain also gets tired, and a person can easily fall asleep.
- The third method is the so-called therapeutic breathing: inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. On the one hand, this is also focusing on breathing. On the other hand, it is working through stress and negative emotions that have accumulated over the past few days. When exhaling through the mouth, you can imagine how tension leaves the body. This literally turns off consciousness. And you can sleep peacefully.
