In February, gardeners and summer residents have noticeably more work to do.
In the few days remaining before the start of sowing, it is necessary to buy soil, fertilizers, seeds, and also prepare all of this for sowing.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how and what to prepare for sowing in February.
Actually, there is no secret. February preparation and sowing allows you to play it safe and harvest a little earlier.
You can avoid autumn cold and also protect your plantings from bad weather at the end of summer.
What to prepare for sowing
At the end of February, it is time for summer residents to get the seeds out of the pantry and prepare them for sowing for seedlings. This primarily concerns the following crops:
- cabbage (early), cauliflower, broccoli and Brussels sprouts;
- eggplants;
- pepper;
- onion;
- potato.
As for potatoes, preparation of tubers for planting begins in late February – early March.
To obtain an early harvest, the tubers are sprouted in a container with filler (soil or wet sawdust) in a warm and illuminated place.
In this case, the tubers will not only sprout, but also develop roots, which will speed up germination and allow you to harvest earlier than usual.
