As a rule, to minimize this very risk, fabre or garden varnish are used. Each of these materials has its own characteristics.
Thus, paint is more effective in combination with a fungicide – this could be copper oxychloride or copper sulfate.
The paint is also easier to apply and will hold up better, especially if it rains after pruning.
If you use this product, you will not have to waste your nerves worrying about whether the cut is really protected from the weather.
In turn, it is difficult to work with garden pitch in cold weather, since it hardens due to low temperatures.
This means that you will need some time and, of course, some effort to warm up the substance before applying it.
Another important rule that should be kept in mind by everyone who has chosen garden pitch: it can only be applied after the surface has been thoroughly dried.
And finally, some gardeners believe that after this method of treatment, wounds on the tree heal worse.
If you still can’t decide, or if you don’t have any paint or garden pitch, you can mix 10 ml of iodine and 100 ml of linseed oil and apply the product to the cut from a spray bottle.
