To properly complete the summer cottage season, you need to take into account all the nuances. This concerns the application of fertilizers, treatment from pests and diseases, watering and pruning.
Cultivated perennials need all of the above procedures except one. In some cases, you should avoid pruning.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told which plants should not be pruned for the winter.
They overwinter without pruning.
1. Do not prune bushes and vines that bloom on last year’s shoots (for example, some varieties of clematis).
2. Do not prune plants that overwinter with leaves, so-called evergreens.
In this case, pruning is completely prohibited.
3. Also, do not prune plants whose shoots and leaves dry out, but remain hard and elastic.
In this case, only the blackened and soggy shoots are removed.
4. Also, southern plants adapted to cold climates (sage, lavender, etc.) are not pruned.
They tolerate cold better under natural cover.
An exception is the situation when sanitary pruning is required.
