All gardeners know that wood ash is a fertilizer that is useful for most cultivated plants.
There are some exceptions. Let's consider the possibility of using wood ash using the example of pear fertilizing.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, told whether it is worth adding ash to a pear tree.
When to feed a pear tree
If fertilizers were added to the hole for the seedling, then during the first year there is no need to fertilize or feed the pear at all.
From the second year, either organic matter or mineral additives are added to the pear tree.
Is it possible to add ash?
Wood ash is also useful for pears.
It contains phosphorus and potassium, so you can safely apply it to pear trees in June and July.
How to do it
In the tree trunk circle, you need to make a groove approximately 30 cm wide and 20-25 cm deep, or make several holes under the crown up to 40 cm deep.
We add ash to them (300 g per 1 sq. m), sprinkle with earth and water with warm water.
After this, you need to mulch the tree trunk circle with straw or humus.
After about 20 days, you need to add liquid ash (1 glass of ash per 10 liters of water) and water the pear, making a groove 10-20 cm from the trunk.
The harvest after this increases, and the tree also survives the winter better.
