The benefits of organic fertilizers for plants cannot be overestimated, but only if they are used correctly.
For example, the same wood ash can protect against pests, increase crop yields, but also ruin seedlings at the root.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told whether it is possible to use ash when growing seedlings.
Benefits of Ash
It contains a lot of useful substances, without which you cannot expect a good harvest or normal growth from plants.
In addition, ash prevents the development of black leg and other fungal diseases.
Harm of ash
If you use ash frequently, the pH level of the soil will increase and become alkaline, and seedlings prefer to grow within the range of 6-7 pH.
Can I use it?
1. No more than 1-2 times a month. Two weeks after the emergence of shoots, prepare a solution (1 teaspoon of ash per 1 liter of hot water). Infuse for 24 hours, filter and use for morning watering.
2. In spring, you can use an ash solution (8 liters of hot water per glass of ash and leave for 24 hours), which is used when there is a lack of light.
3. To prevent fungal diseases, add 1 tablespoon of ash per 1 liter of soil, but only before sowing.
If signs of “black leg” appear, you can sprinkle the soil with ash.
Important! Ash fertilizers are applied separately from other fertilizers and are not mixed with other additives.
Earlier we talked about the mistake most summer residents make when applying fertilizers.
