Many people remember that during the Soviet Union, six hundred square meters of land were given out for a summer house.

But few people know why the plots were exactly six hundred square meters, no more, no less.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, explains why dachas in the USSR were divided into exactly six hundred square meters.

Why in the USSR were dachas 6 hundred square meters

This area of the summer cottage was not chosen at random.

It was determined by scientists, economists and agronomists, who calculated that this type of plot can provide the average family with the necessary agricultural products.

The calculation was based on the needs of a family of four to six people. The corresponding decree was issued in 1949.
