Aronia nigra, also known as black chokeberry, is a fruit tree (shrub) that grows up to 3 meters in height.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told us how to care for this generally unpretentious plant so that it pleases not only with its undoubtedly attractive appearance, but also with its fruits.

First of all, it is worth telling about planting chokeberry. The autumn period of time is the best time for this procedure – the end of September or the beginning of October.

However, some summer residents plant chokeberries in the spring as well – the main thing is to do it before the end of April.

The time of day is also important – choose the evening time for planting, or a day when the weather is cloudy.

For chokeberry, it is worth preparing slightly acidic and moist soil and placing it in a sunny place.

In spring, do not forget about pruning and whitewashing. Before the buds open, spray the chokeberry with Bordeaux mixture (1%).

The treatment is carried out both in the summer – against all kinds of pests, and in the fall – this time using a 7% urea solution.

The last step is to cover it. If the plant is young, it needs high hilling and also sprinkling with foliage. Adult rowan trees do not need such measures.
