A bountiful carrot harvest does not always bring joy to a summer resident. Indeed, how can one feel delight if the root vegetables harvested from one's plot turned out to be bitter in taste.

We asked the expert of the online publication Belnovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , what could be the reasons for such an unpleasant phenomenon.

It turns out that sometimes, due to constant heavy rains, the top part of the vegetable ends up outside.

The same thing happens when carrots are not hilled.

The sun's rays cause the top of the root to turn green and the entire carrot to become bitter. Don't worry - it's still safe and edible.

The same thing can be observed when the gardener did not pay enough attention to watering the carrot beds. In this case, the carrots grow dry and sometimes have a large number of roots.

Delaying harvesting can also damage the taste of the vegetable, so try not to leave it in the soil for too long.

And to ensure that the harvest is juicy and sweet, do not neglect to apply fertilizers – primarily phosphorus, boron and manganese.
