Kiwi has long ceased to be something exotic on the shelves. Its pulp with an abundance of small and soft seeds, reminiscent of gooseberry, strawberry and pineapple at the same time, contains many useful substances, as does the "hairy" peel.
But before that, it is worth choosing the right ripe, juicy and appetizing specimens.
You can identify ripe fruits by pressing them lightly with your finger: a kiwi that is ready to eat will not be too hard, but not too soft either.
Another sign of ripeness of the fruit is when, when lightly rubbed with a finger, hairs fall off the skin.
Made a mistake and bought unripe kiwis? This can be easily fixed by placing the fruit in a paper bag and placing it inside a kitchen cupboard for two or three days, where it is dark, dry and relatively warm. There, the kiwi will ripen normally, preserving its taste and juiciness.
Ripe fruits cannot be stored for more than 10 days, especially in the refrigerator: they will lose their flavor when exposed to cold.
Although there is evidence that the "hairy" skin of kiwi contains much more vitamins and minerals than the green tasty pulp, many people still prefer to peel the fruit.
And this can be done in several ways: use a vegetable peeler and carefully cut off the skin in thin strips, cut the fruit in half and take out the pulp with a spoon, resort to the blanching method (first dip the kiwi in boiling water for 30 seconds, then in cold water and peel off the skin with your hands).
If you plan to eat the kiwi without undressing it, the fruit should be thoroughly washed with water and lightly cleaned with a brush or foam sponge.
It's delicious to eat juicy, sour fruits just like that, for dessert after the main courses.
Kiwi contains enzymes that have a good effect on digestion. And this fruit is quite good in fruit salads, especially in combination with tangerines and bananas. Peeled and cut into pieces, the berries are a good ingredient for smoothies.
It is also acceptable to combine kiwi with cheeses and seafood, add its pulp to homemade yogurt, mix it with cottage cheese, and make sauces for meat and poultry with it.
It will also be delicious if kiwi is added to homemade ice cream.
When is it best to eat kiwi and in what quantity? This berry contains a lot of fruit sugar, so it is recommended to eat it in the morning, during or after breakfast, or at lunch.
One or two fruits a day is enough to get a good dose of vitamins and fiber from kiwi, as well as normalize digestion.
