Why Workouts Make You Gain Weight: 3 Reasons Why the Number on the Scale Increases After the Gym

Unfortunately, no other way to lose weight other than dieting and exercising has yet been invented.

But it also happens that a person losing weight strictly adheres to dietary restrictions and regularly visits the gym, but his weight only increases.

It turns out that sometimes training can be the cause, and it's not about increasing muscle mass.

Appetite is out of control

The research resulted in two contradictory conclusions.

Some scientists believe that moderate and high-intensity exercise reduces appetite, while others are confident that working out in the gym can lead to an increase in appetite.

The conclusion is clear: we are all individuals, which means you may well be among those for whom sports make you eat more.

To ensure you are in a calorie deficit, monitor your calorie intake in a way that works for you.

Training has become a source of stress

Again, scientists have not come to a consensus: while some are confident that physical activity is an effective means against stress, others believe that excessive physical activity affects brain health, which affects the gut microbiome.

However, sometimes the reason is not a serious load, but emotional experiences. For example, anxiety appears when you think that you will not cope with the trainer's task or when all the participants in the group training look slimmer than you.

The result is the same: cortisol is produced, metabolism slows down, and weight either remains the same or increases.

Exercise interferes with sleep

Some people toss and turn in bed after spending an hour on the exercise machines until the morning. As a result, they face the problem of lack of sleep, which is usually followed by overeating.

This happens when people exercise too late in the evening. This causes endorphin levels to rise, causing a rush of energy that makes it difficult to fall asleep.

To solve this problem, it is usually enough to increase the time interval between training and sleep.
