What to Put in a Bag of Leafy Greens to Make Them Last Longer: Will Stay Fresh for Over a Week

Any housewife knows how quickly leafy greens spoil.

No matter what tricks you use when storing lettuce or spinach, it is enough to spend a few days in the refrigerator, and they become wilted, and here and there rotten areas appear.

Fortunately, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, had some advice on this topic.

She advises storing such greens in thick bags equipped with a zip-lock.

But one ziplock bag is not enough.

Leafy greens have a very delicate texture, which is what causes the rotting process to develop so quickly.

As a result of any contact with moisture, the leaves of plants begin to rot.

By the way, this is why you need to wash the leaves just before you are going to eat them, and not before storing them.

But what about condensation, which, as we know, forms even in a tightly closed plastic bag?

There is a way out of this situation: continue to store greens in zip-lock bags, but not alone, but together with paper towels.

To keep your plants fresh and crisp for up to a week, line the leaves with paper towels.

The main thing is not to pack leafy greens into bags too tightly to allow air flow to the plants.
