Hot water test
To check the quality of sour cream, try adding a tablespoon of the product to hot water. This will help you determine the presence of vegetable fats in it.
If the sour cream has dissolved completely and you have a homogeneous thick mass in front of you, then everything is fine.
In the same case, if you notice flakes on the surface of the water, it is better to refuse to use the product.
Method with iodine
Hot water can be replaced with iodine with the same effectiveness.
Put a spoonful of sour cream on a plate and drop some iodine. If the color of the product changes to blue, it means that it contains starch, the presence of which is unacceptable.
An indicator of high-quality sour cream is the brown iodine stain remaining on it.
