Even taking into account the fact that for Belarusians potatoes are almost a second bread, not everyone knows how to cook them properly.
Not only Belarusians, but the majority of people who have to deal with cooking this vegetable make the same mistake.
Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova - a cook, fourth-category baker told how to cook potatoes correctly.
What is the mistake?
1. Potatoes are boiled in hot water, not cold. This reduces the processing time and the tubers retain most of their nutrients.
Therefore, you need to put the potatoes in boiling water, and then add salt.
2. If you are boiling young potatoes, you also need to place them in boiling water, then cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
3. It is recommended to boil old tubers in their skins to preserve most of the vitamins and nutrients.
4. If you are going to make mashed potatoes, you need to peel the potatoes as thinly as possible and cut them into pieces to shorten the processing time.
5. You can boil potatoes by adding milk (250 ml per liter of water), butter, garlic or onion to the water.
If you cook potatoes correctly, they will retain the maximum amount of nutrients and vitamins, including vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, iodine, sodium and sulfur.
