The variety of dishes made from such an affordable vegetable as cabbage is impressive: soups, main courses, salads, appetizers, pies and much more.

The only downside is the specific smell that occurs when cooking cabbage. Many people find it repulsive.

For this reason, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova, shared three simple methods that will help get rid of the unpleasant smell when stewing cabbage.

Vinegar

Vinegar is an effective remedy that can help eliminate the cabbage smell. The main thing is to use it in moderation so as not to spoil the taste of the dish.

To get rid of the specific smell when stewing cabbage, add a little vinegar. In addition, it is worth pouring sugar into the dish - it will help remove the sourness.

Salt and soda

For this method, you will need cold water in which you need to dissolve a tablespoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda.

Place the chopped cabbage in this solution and cook without a lid for 15-20 minutes. Then drain the cabbage in a colander and continue cooking (stewing, boiling or baking).

Bay leaf

The last way to eliminate the cabbage smell is to add a few bay leaves, a tablespoon of white wine vinegar and lemon juice to the water.

Parsley, dill and caraway will also help reduce the cabbage "aroma".
