The Mimosa salad is one of those dishes that were popular back in Soviet times.

Only then it was prepared a little differently, says Yulia Arkhipova, an expert chef at the online publication BelNovosti.

Let's talk about the differences between today's recipe and what it was like before.

Fish

Modern housewives prefer to prepare the Mimosa salad with canned fish (in oil or its own juice), although the original recipe uses boiled fish.

We don’t argue – canned fish is convenient to use, but it tastes inferior to boiled fish.

Potato

The original recipe for Mimosa does not include potatoes. This ingredient appeared later – housewives began adding it to increase the nutritional value.

Carrot

In Soviet times, boiled carrots, grated on a grater, were one of the layers of the salad.

Modern housewives replace boiled carrots with Korean carrots, thereby making the dish much more piquant in taste.

Cheese

Cheese also cannot be found in the list of ingredients for the classic Mimosa salad, but modern housewives often add it to other products.
