Many housewives are sure that you don’t need any special skills to cook pea porridge.

In reality, everything is somewhat more complicated: sometimes difficulties arise already at the stage of purchasing the necessary ingredients.

There are usually three types of peas you can find on a store shelf.

Whole

Whole peas are suitable for all recipes, but there is one but - before you start cooking, you will have to soak them in water for a long time. If you want the dish to be tasty, leave the beans in water overnight.

Chopped

Split peas can be purchased when you plan to cook porridge using a saucepan or multicooker. In this case, the soaking time is reduced to 1.5-2 hours.

In addition, when cooking split peas, do not forget to remove the foam. Otherwise, this substance will sink to the bottom of the pan in the form of unsightly flakes, but this is not so bad - the porridge will taste bitter.

Crushed

You can use such peas with a clear conscience in the process of preparing porridge and mashed potatoes. Unlike the previous options, it does not need to be soaked.
