Not everyone checks chicken eggs for freshness before cooking, and that’s a shame.
A spoiled egg can cause serious poisoning. We explain how to check whether eggs are fresh or not.
How to check eggs for freshness
First, it is important to know that spoiled eggs float to the surface when cooked.
If the egg floats, it means that a lot of air has accumulated in it and most likely decomposition processes have already begun. You should not eat such eggs.
To check the freshness of an egg before boiling, simply place it in cold water.
If the eggs sink to the bottom of the pan, they are fresh; if they are slightly “hanging” at the bottom, they are already 10-15 days old; and if they float, their expiration date is approaching.
