There is probably nothing tastier than home-salted mackerel.

It goes perfectly with potatoes in any form, and even just with bread. And preparing such a treat is as easy as pie.

For this, for 2 fish you will need:

  • 1 onion (large);
  • 5-8 cloves;
  • 10-15 pcs. black allspice;
  • 3-5 pcs. bay leaf.

Wait until the mackerel has defrosted a little, then you can cut off the heads, tail and remove the entrails.

Wash the fish and cut it into pieces. Peel the onion and cut it into half rings.

Pieces of mackerel and onion should be placed in a jar in layers. Do not forget to sprinkle the contents of the container with cloves, pepper and pre-crushed bay leaves.

After this, you can start preparing the marinade, for which you will need:

  • 500 ml of water;
  • 2.5 tbsp. salt;
  • 1.5 tbsp sugar;
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil.

Boil water, add salt and sugar and add butter. When the marinade cools to room temperature, pour it into the jar with mackerel.

All that remains is to cover the container with a lid and put it in the refrigerator for a day.
