Many families rely heavily on grandmothers for help with grandchildren.
However, not all female relatives can be exemplary: sometimes their behavior can cause dissatisfaction among parents.
What are the signs that indicate a toxic grandmother?
She always knows how to do things "right" and doesn't listen to anyone.
Some grandmothers are happy to study modern trends in parenting, listen to them, and also respect the opinions of parents.
It is difficult to convince others: they will always stand their ground, ignoring the opinion of mom and dad. This approach is extremely authoritarian and difficult for the rest of the family.
Unacceptable methods of "education"
Many grandmothers grew up in a completely different society, so for them physical punishment (or the threat of it) is perceived quite favorably.
If you know that the grandmother can afford to overindulge, then you should not leave the child with her, experts believe.
Evades help
Toxicity can manifest itself in different ways. For example, an elderly relative may avoid contact with her grandchildren at all costs, since she has more interesting and important tasks.
Parents should do the right thing. They shouldn't send their child to a person who clearly doesn't want to see them. This can be a traumatic experience for the child's psyche.
Constant flow of negativity
Some grandmothers are too often full of negative comments. They are able to complain about everything because they have "fresh ears".
It is not advisable for a child to encounter this.
