Many people get up early to get to work. By the time you get ready and get there, time is running out.

Quite a few of this category of citizens go to bed late. They are called "night owls".

And here lies a big problem for health – lack of sleep can lead to consequences that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

Therefore, those who claim that they are used to such a schedule (going to bed at one or two in the morning, getting up around six in the morning), and that lack of sleep is not a problem for them, are wrong.

What do scientists say?

Below we will list only the main consequences of such a thoughtless attitude towards sleep.

Scientists have proven that lack of sleep is a very, very dangerous condition for the body.

As has been proven by the fact that the minimum amount of time for sleep is six hours.

The period during which the energy expended during the day is restored, which is necessary to maintain the normal functioning of the body.

If you sleep less than 6 hours, you risk causing mental and internal organ problems.

TOP ailments caused by lack of sleep

Cardiovascular diseases. In particular, heart rhythm disturbances, ischemia, increased risk of myocardial infarction.

Reduced immunity. It is during sleep that the immune system produces cytokines – proteins that protect the body from inflammation and infections.

With a lack of sleep, the amount of such proteins decreases and, accordingly, the immune system weakens.

Diabetes: When you don't get enough sleep, the hormone insulin's ability to regulate glucose levels decreases.

Hence: chronic lack of sleep provokes type 2 diabetes.

Weight gain. When there is a lack of sleep, the body compensates for energy losses by increasing the production of the hunger hormone ghrelin.

This leads to the fact that with chronic lack of sleep, appetite increases, and this is fraught with an increased risk of obesity.

Deterioration of brain function. In particular, cognitive functions suffer – thinking, memory, attentiveness.

The above mentioned is often the cause not only of decreased productivity at work, but also of accidents, incidents, traffic accidents, etc.

In addition, lack of sleep leads to increased anxiety, irritability, and aggressiveness.

Also, lack of sleep has a high risk of developing depression.

In men, lack of sleep reduces the level of testosterone and sex hormones.
