For some people, the winter holidays can result in an exacerbation of chronic diseases.
Therapist Olga Korkhova from SM-Clinic told us who needs to pay special attention to their health.
The specialist’s statement is quoted by Gazeta.Ru .
Who may experience worsening illnesses after the winter holidays
Firstly, people with hypertension may face problems.
Overeating and consuming salty foods and alcohol can lead to increased blood pressure.
Korkhova recommended that hypertensive patients regularly measure their blood pressure and not forget to take their medications.
Missing a dose may lead to a worsening of the condition, the specialist warned.
Secondly, people with diabetes often experience exacerbations during the winter holidays.
Eating large amounts of sweets and carbohydrates, the doctor explained, can lead to sharp jumps in blood glucose levels.
This can lead to both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, which is extremely dangerous to health, Korkhova noted.
People with gastrointestinal diseases and allergy sufferers are also at risk of developing an exacerbation.
In case of gastrointestinal diseases, heavy, fatty and spicy food should be avoided. Allergy sufferers should check the composition of dishes in advance and have antihistamines on hand.
