Modern life is full of temptations: food courts in shopping malls are full of fast food, sweets and other delicacies, but, alas, these are not always healthy products.
However, some of them may hide in our diet as “good guys,” leaving us unaware of their harm.
Let's look into this issue together with nutritionist Maria Kapralova .
Processed meat products
Hot dogs, sausages and bacon are popular snacks that many of us enjoy. However, they often contain high amounts of salt, preservatives, dyes and saturated fats.
Research shows that regular consumption of processed meat is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and some cancers.
Instead, you should pay attention to lean meat or fish, which will provide the body with the necessary nutrients without unnecessary harm. Homemade meat dishes are one of the best solutions!
Sweet drinks
Carbonated drinks and juices with added sugar may seem harmless, as many are labeled “natural juice,” but their consumption can lead to serious health problems.
They contain a huge amount of sugar, which can cause sharp spikes in blood glucose levels, as well as contribute to weight gain and the development of diabetes.
You can drink them, but in small quantities, for variety and so that you do not feel limited in choice. Instead of sweet drinks, it is better to give preference to pure water, herbal teas or freshly squeezed juices without added sugar.
White bread and pastries
Many people do not think about the harm of white bread and baked goods made from white flour. These products contain little fiber and can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels. In addition, many useful substances are lost during the processing.
Fast carbohydrates, unfortunately, bring us only empty calories, which the body quickly puts aside for later and asks for food again, since it is not possible to get satiety from such products for a long time.
An alternative could be whole grain products, which provide the body with essential vitamins and minerals.
Low calorie foods
Products labeled as "low-calorie" or "fat-free" often contain added sugars and artificial ingredients to improve taste. People may mistakenly believe that such products are healthier, but in fact, they may be even more harmful than their full-fat counterparts.
It is better to choose natural products and control portions than to rely on "deceptive" low-calorie versions. Farm dairy products have always been, are and will be the healthiest.
Dried fruits and nuts with additives
Dried fruits and nuts are considered healthy snacks, but many of them are processed with added sugar, salt, or oil. This significantly increases their calorie content and reduces their health benefits.
When choosing dried fruits and nuts, pay attention to the composition - it is better to choose products without additives. This will preserve all the beneficial properties and avoid extra calories. The most beautiful and shiny dried fruits are the very "pests" to our health.
It is important to realize that even seemingly familiar products can conceal a health hazard.
By replacing them with healthier alternatives, you can significantly improve your well-being and quality of life. Remember: health is not only the absence of diseases, but also proper nutrition!
