People usually treat sunburn with something cold. The first thing they recommend in this case is sour cream, kefir or some other fermented milk products.
Of course, doctors have a different point of view on this matter, which has nothing in common with popular developments.
The most common thing that happens due to improper treatment is infection when using fat-containing drugs or our favorite folk remedies, dermatologist and candidate of medical sciences Natalia Gaidash told Sputnik radio in an interview.
How not to treat a burn
Speaking about folk remedies, the specialist mentioned sour cream, kefir, peach or olive oil.
But all of these are fatty products that create a film on the skin, under which “infectious processes develop, like in a greenhouse.”
The next mistake is to puncture the burn blisters and tear off the skin.
They can only be removed after the blisters have burst on their own, and the skin must be cut off with manicure scissors.
How to treat a burn
If you get sunburned, you need to cover your skin with a cold, damp material.
You can use moisturizers with dexpanthenol. However, the specialist advises using a cream, not a gel or spray.
You can also use creams with anti-inflammatory drugs.
