The doctor agrees with gastroenterologists that shashlik is not the healthiest food, but he is unable to cancel the established tradition.
That is why Alexander Myasnikov believes that a popular dish should be made as healthy as possible.
The expert is sure that in this case, not only usefulness but also taste is important. The doctor explained what meat and marinade are best used for making shashlik.
What is the best thing to cook with?
Myasnikov emphasized that those who are losing weight and those who are simply concerned about their health should definitely choose one of the following white meat options:
- chicken;
- rabbit;
- calf;
- turkey.
Shashlik made from these types of meat is healthier, the doctor noted on the air of the program “ Doctor Myasnikov ”.
"Red [meat] is pork, lamb, beef (adults). So white meat is preferable for health," the expert shared.
Another healthy option is fish, but the unhealthiest choice is pork, the doctor believes.
Marinade for shashlik
Myasnikov noted that he had been to the Caucasus, where shashlik is a traditional dish. The doctor emphasized that the secret of the taste lies in the marinade.
According to him, Caucasians do not abuse salt and, moreover, do not soak meat in beer or wine – this is useless and harmful.
“In general, I would marinate it with a very small amount of salt and plain water: it becomes very soft,” the doctor shared his opinion.
Myasnikov noted that there is no need to be tricky with the marinade, because there are sauces that will perfectly complement the taste.
