How to understand that it is time to lose weight: you need to perform a simple action

To find out what shape you are in and whether it is time to go on a diet, it is worth doing some simple calculations.

All that is required of you is to calculate your BMI, or body mass index.

BMI shows whether a person's weight is appropriate for his or her height.

Even if you weren't good at math in school, don't panic - the BMI formula is easy to calculate.

Take a calculator and divide your body weight (in kilograms) by your height squared (in meters).

As an example, let's look at how to calculate the BMI of a person whose weight is 80 kg and height is 180 cm.

The formula in this case will look like this: 80 / (1.8 * 1.8) = 24.69.

It remains to compare the obtained result with the BMI indicators. The table with the data can be found on the Internet. Please note: the table is designed for adults only.

According to WHO recommendations, if the BMI is 16 or less, there is a significant underweight. People with a BMI of 16 to 18.5 are underweight, and those with a BMI of 18.5 to 25 are of normal weight.

A figure from 25 to 30 indicates that excess body weight is possible. Starting from 30 and above, we can talk about possible obesity of varying degrees.

Important: The BMI formula, unfortunately, does not take into account all parameters, for example, visceral fat or muscle mass, so it is not possible to determine whether it is worth losing weight based on this indicator alone.
