On the night of December 31 to January 1, hundreds of thousands of bottles of champagne are traditionally opened. This is a tradition that nutritionists are not thrilled about.

It sounds strange, but when choosing between popular types of alcohol – vodka and champagne, experts advise choosing stronger alcohol.

Aleksey Kabanov, a nutrition consultant and deputy director of the ANO Scientific and Research Center “Healthy Nutrition,” told Lenta.ru why it is better to drink vodka on New Year’s Eve.

Why is champagne worse than vodka?

It turns out that champagne is a more harmful alcoholic drink.

Firstly, alcohol itself is harmful.

Secondly, champagne is a carbonated drink.

Thirdly, it contains sugar (up to 50 grams per liter). For the same reason, the nutritionist advises to be careful with semi-sweet wine.

Sugar norm

For an adult, the daily norm is 25 grams of sugar.

That is, a bottle of champagne is twice the norm, which increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, as well as diabetes and obesity.

This is the only reason why the doctor considers vodka to be the best drink for the New Year.

But from a rational point of view, doctors advise giving up alcohol or consuming no more than 50-100 milliliters of vodka.
