Many of us love cherries. This berry is tasty, but not only that. It is also very useful.
But what color of cherry is healthier? How to choose the right one, where is it better to buy, what to pay attention to?
Representatives of the Center for Hygienic Education of the Population of Rospotrebnadzor answered these questions.
Where to buy
As for purchasing the product, experts advise doing so in places where the quality of the berries is constantly monitored.
Almost every major market has a stationary department that carries out such control, the Center noted.
When purchasing, you should ask the seller about the location and conditions of cherry growth.
At your first request, he must provide documents for the goods being sold.
Experts do not recommend buying cherries at spontaneous markets or from individuals.
Let's look at the skin
When speaking about choosing berries, experts emphasize: a good cherry should have clean and smooth skin, with a glossy shine, without cracks or dents.
If you notice a matte surface and lack of shine, you should know that the berry was picked a long time ago.
The quality of the cherry is also indicated by its pulp – it should be dense and elastic.
If the berry feels soft to the touch, it is most likely overripe or has started to spoil.
Color
The stalk should be elastic and green in color, the Center’s staff said.
If it is dry and darkened, it means that the berry has probably been stored for a long time and, accordingly, has lost its taste.
By the way, the taste depends on the variety and color. Thus, yellow and pink cherries are more tender and watery, their taste is not pronounced, sweet and sour.
But dark cherries, as a rule, have a brighter, richer taste, and are sweeter.
