Why Mold Has Started in the Washing Machine: 4 Mistakes 90% of Housewives Make

If you notice that after washing your laundry smells damp and, in addition, it is decorated with dirty gray stains of unknown origin, you can be sure that mold has settled in the machine.

Let's find out why colonies of fungi have taken a liking to the insides of household appliances.

Delicate or fast mode

If you constantly wash your clothes on a delicate or quick wash cycle, the water only heats up to 30-40 degrees, which is not always enough to kill bacteria and fungal spores. As a result, microorganisms can settle on the inside of the drum and door of the washing machine.

Fabric softener

Every time you use fabric softener or rinse aid, you can contribute to the formation of a slimy film on the plastic, metal and rubber surfaces of the washing machine. This film does not wash off completely and becomes an ideal environment for mold growth.

Wet laundry

After washing, do not leave the laundry in the drum of the washing machine for a long time. Humidity, cold and lack of fresh air create ideal conditions for the growth of fungus. Items should be removed from the drum immediately after washing or, at most, after 2-3 hours. If possible, the laundry can be transferred to a basin.

Closed door

Do not close the door of the washing machine if there is still water inside the drum. This can lead to increased humidity, which, combined with low temperatures, promotes rapid mold growth. It is better to leave the door slightly open until the machine is completely dry.
