If you wrinkle your nose every time you walk into the bathroom, it might be time to take a look at the condition of your sink.
There are many reasons why a sink might smell bad, from general uncleanliness to a build-up of debris and hair.
We want to share with you some home remedies to eliminate odor from your bathroom sink.
Before we give you a list of odor control products, keep in mind that the best way to prevent odor is to clean your bathroom sink regularly. So, here are some great ways to get rid of sink stink.
Check the sink
There are many places in your sink where dirt and grime can get stuck, other than the pipes. The most common is the aerator cap, which is the small metal piece located where the water comes out of the faucet.
You can simply remove it with pliers. You can visually check if there is any debris there and remove it with an old toothbrush.
Use a little science
We do not recommend using ready-made chemical drain cleaners, as they often do more harm than good due to the aggressive nature of the ingredients.
However, if you want to try to get rid of the smell from the sink at home, try making the following simple mixture: half a cup of salt, half a cup of baking soda, and half a cup of vinegar.
Pour them into the drain in order, then cover it for half a minute to allow the gas bubbles to work.
After this, pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain to clear it, dissolve the salt and, if the problem is minor, eliminate the stench.
Call your utility provider or plumber
If the two previous methods did not help to deal with the smell from the sink, then it's time to call.
If the odor you encounter is particularly foul, you may be dealing with sulfur compounds.
This problem can be solved by contacting your utility provider to have the composition of your water tested.
If the smell is not similar to the smell of rotten eggs, then most likely there is a deposit in the pipes that cannot be removed by simple measures.
Luckily, there are many professional drain cleaning services available to help you.
