A good strawberry is one that grows in your own garden. Even an unripe berry seems sweet and ripe.
When you give away your hard-earned money at a store or market, you want to get a guarantee that you are buying healthy and tasty berries. It is good if the seller is a friend or just a decent person.
Let's figure out if there are any signs that will help you choose sweet and ripe strawberries in the store.
The first sign
In such cases, experts advise starting the assessment with a visual inspection. At a minimum, the berries should be bright and red and have no light spots.
The pale color indicates that the berries were picked early and ripened in artificial conditions.
The second sign
Next, look at the stems. This is the first sign of freshness or vice versa. Withered leaves at the base of a not quite ripe berry indicate that it was picked not only unripe, but also that it has clearly been lying on the counter for a while.
Even if the strawberries are red, they will most likely be sour.
The third sign
It's the smell. Don't be shy about smelling the product you've chosen. The general mass at the counter may have an intoxicating aroma, but it's the berries you're going to buy that should smell.
They should have a distinct aroma, otherwise the strawberries will taste watery.
