Oh, I'm so lazy today to get up and do something. I just want to lie down and rest.
Psychologist Olga Voitsehovskaya told how to overcome laziness.
But the Inner Bore wakes up inside and starts nagging: "You can't be lazy, you have to work. Get up, it's time to get down to business. No time to rest, etc."
The only thing you want at such moments is to shut up this Bore and hide from him under the blanket. Or even better, relax and fall asleep. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, responsibility, upbringing, social boundaries take over and you crawl out of your cozy bed and wander off to do things.
Sound familiar? Don't rush to blame yourself for being lazy! Laziness is an indicator that something is going wrong in your life.
Let's figure out together what laziness is and whether it is as terrible as we are used to thinking about it.
Laziness is the lack of desire to do something not only now, but also in the future. This is a state of idleness and parasitism. It is this type of laziness that is so strongly condemned by society. Therefore, this state is extremely rare.
In modern life, laziness is a lack of motivation to perform a task that requires some effort. Laziness is also a litmus test of something going wrong in life. And it is important to understand this type of laziness.
Reasons for such laziness
- Fatigue
When a person is very tired, it is quite normal for the body to “scream”: “It’s time to rest!” And in this case, laziness will be very useful, it will help to replenish the supply of energy and strength.
- Lack of purpose for action or imposed purpose
If you don't have a goal or it's imposed by society/loved ones, then you don't want to do anything to achieve it. In this case, laziness will be a reason to think: am I going in the right direction?
- Fear of failure
Sometimes it is scary to take actions that lead to a goal because there is no confidence in success. That everything will turn out the way you want and there will be no mistakes. Because of these fears, laziness turns on, which comes to the rescue and helps you relax. It is always easier to do nothing at all. This way, mistakes and failures are reduced to a minimum, right?)
- Lack of understanding of what exactly needs to be done
Every person has a huge number of tasks to solve every day. It happens that you do, do, and then suddenly freeze because you don’t know how to complete this or that task. At this point, laziness saves you. You remember that you are tired and go to rest.
- Information overload
Every second your brain processes tons of information. This information falls on us from the Internet, communication with colleagues, television, radio, phones, laptops, books, etc. It is quite normal that the brain needs rest and no information at all. In this case, a little laziness will only do good.
We've sorted out laziness and the reasons for its appearance, but what to do with all of this - no.
I offer the following simple and effective options
- Don't beat yourself up for being lazy if you're usually productive and hardworking. Allow yourself to be a little lazy, give yourself permission to lie in bed a little longer and laze around. This way, you'll be able to rest, replenish your energy, and get back to work with renewed vigor.
- Set yourself realistic goals and check them for truth. It's quite simple to do: ask yourself: what do I want to achieve? Why do I need this? What will change in my life when I achieve this? What am I willing to do to achieve this?
Answers to these questions will help you understand yourself and your goals. And don't forget that goals should be specific, achievable and time-limited. For example, I want a car in 5 years - that's not a goal. But this sounds clearer to the brain: January 1, 2024, I have a car of brand XXX series XXX. - Time management.
No matter how much we want to get rid of planning, we have to admit that it works and helps us live. Did you know that the first rule of time management is to plan your rest first?
Yes, yes, rest is the most important part. Therefore, I recommend starting the daily plan with rest, and then distributing all other tasks, even small ones.
- Summing up the day
Sometimes it only seems to us that nothing has been done during the day or that little has been done, so it is very important to analyze everything that happened during the day in the evening.
It is better to do this in writing, so you will unload your brain from information and see that the day was not wasted. The technique of summing up is simple: write down on a piece of paper everything that you did during the day, especially note which of these things were done best.
Then write down what helped you in completing them, what actions/life hacks can be used in the future. Be sure to write down what didn’t work out and why, what can be changed so that it works out next time.
Try it and see how productive you are and also understand that mistakes are just experience.
- Task decomposition
Break down large tasks into small ones, and small ones into specific actions. This way, you will have a list of simple actions to solve a large task.
This will help the brain to concentrate on performing simple actions and not be afraid of having to decide something.
If you are completely lazy and do not want to get out of bed, this may be the cause of emotional burnout or depression. In this case, it is better to contact a specialist. A psychologist will help you figure out what is the reason for your laziness and will choose a way out of this state.
Laziness is not as bad as they say. Monitor your condition, use exercises and remember: laziness is the engine of progress. Lazy people come up with brilliant inventions to make their lives easier. They deserve gratitude, not condemnation. Be lazy for the benefit of yourself and society.
Allow laziness to be present in your life sometimes. Gain strength from it and live your best life.
