Modern man is accustomed to perishable products, forgetting that some can be stored much longer than the stated expiration date.

For example, our grandmothers made supplies that were stored for 5, 7, and sometimes 10 years. And all these products are still present in your kitchen, you just need to know about them.

1. Fig.

Rice is a food that can be eaten decades later if stored properly. To prevent rice from spoiling, it should be kept in a dry, dark place at a temperature of about 4-5 degrees.

In such conditions, rice not only remains edible, but also retains its nutritional properties for 30 years. However, it will be necessary to protect the grain from rodents, moisture and insects, such as food moths, which make it difficult to preserve grains even for 1 year, let alone 30 years.

2. Honey.

Honey is a product that does not spoil for decades. Like rice, honey should be stored in an airtight container in a cool and dry place. Moreover, it can preserve other products for decades.

It is not without reason that honey was used in ancient times to preserve food during the burial of rulers and for the mummification of bodies. Of course, modern honey from the store should not be stored for 40 years, but it will definitely retain its properties for several years.

3. Canned food.

Canned meat lasts longer than fish. Canned food in tins lasts longer than in glass. There are known cases when canned meat from the First and Second World Wars was found during excavations. Sometimes they were opened; it turned out that the meat retained an acceptable appearance and smell, despite the fact that it had been lying in less than ideal conditions for decades.

4. Salt.

Salt is another product that does not spoil for decades. The only thing that can harm it is moisture.

5. Sugar.

Sugar can be used as food even after 10 years if it was stored in a dry, cool place. Our grandmothers bought sugar in sacks for future use. This is not only economical in the long run, but also convenient, since the product is always at hand.

Of course, you shouldn't take the situation to the point of fanaticism and buy products for 10 years, storing them in the house. Remember: storage time directly depends on the conditions. Dampness, mice, insect pests, heat or frost have an effect.

However, it is not always worth throwing away well-preserved honey, rice or canned food if the expiration date indicated on the package has expired. Vinegar, soda, dry milk, dark chocolate, dried mushrooms, and oatmeal also do not spoil for a long time.
