An unpleasant smell in the refrigerator is a problem that is especially relevant in hot summers, when bacteria multiply at lightning speed.
There are several ways to get rid of the stench. But it is important not only to eliminate the unpleasant odor, but also to prevent its occurrence in the future.
Cleaning
It all starts with cleaning the refrigerator. Two types of products are used for washing: specialized ones from the manufacturer of the equipment and improvised ones. As for the latter, housewives prepare a soap solution or use dishwashing detergent.
Particular attention is paid to the drain hole, which is usually located in the center of the rear wall of the refrigerator chamber.
Odor neutralization
If the refrigerator literally shines with cleanliness, but the smell has not disappeared, then a solution of soda, lemon or vinegar (9%) will help.
Any of the ingredients are diluted with water and the surfaces of the appliance are treated. However, do not wash the door seals with vinegar, so that they do not lose their elasticity.
Natural absorbents
Some products absorb unpleasant odors: activated carbon, rye bread, rice, soda, oatmeal, raw potatoes, ground coffee. It is enough to lay out the absorbent products and wait until they absorb the unpleasant odor.
Special cleaners
If you don’t want to use “grandmother’s tricks”, you can resort to the help of special products: gels, balls with silicone granules, hanging dispensers, ionizers-fresheners.
