The World's Largest Candy: What Does It Taste Like?

The Guinness World Record for the largest piece of candy belongs to a piece of toffee made by Nidar, a Norwegian confectionery manufacturer that has been around for over a century.

The record was set on August 12, 1997 in Trondheim, Norway, where the giant toffee was put on display at the company's factory.

How big was it?

The official dimensions of the record are 5 feet (approximately 1.5 m) long, 5 feet (approximately 1.5 m) wide and 17 inches (approximately 43 cm) high.

Unfortunately, there are no photographs of this record, because it all happened more than 20 years ago.

This candy probably weighed about 3,500 pounds (over 1.5 tons), so it is unlikely that anyone could lift it to their mouth to try it.

However, we have a good idea of what it tasted like, at least in theory.

The record toffee was a much larger version of the Nidar product. Since 1935, Nidar had been producing Smorbukk toffees in huge copper kettles, where they boiled the caramel mass before rolling it out and cutting it into pieces.

So the resulting treat probably contained a lot of sugar and would certainly have been enjoyed by those with a sweet tooth.
