In the Soviet Union, the camera actually received the status of a national camera. And not without reason.
Firstly, the device was relatively inexpensive: you could buy the Smena-8M for 15 Soviet rubles.
Secondly, the device was quite easy to operate. Even a novice photographer could use it.
Thirdly, Smena-8M functioned normally even in difficult weather conditions (including severe frosts).
Of course, the camera had its shortcomings. But its availability and ease of use made all the disadvantages insignificant.
It is not surprising that the total number of Smena-8M devices produced has exceeded 21 million.
