Was discovered at a depth of 8336 m: what is the deepest fish on the planet

The deepest-sea fish on the planet was discovered at a depth of 8,336 meters.

It was the snail fish Pseudoliparis belyaevi (Belyaev's pseudoliparis).

This view was captured by a lander deployed in the Izu-Ogasawara Trench in southern Japan.

Scientists claim that this is the maximum depth at which fish can survive. Recall that the previous record was set at a depth of 8,178 meters in the Mariana Trench.

Thus, the new observation increased the record by 158 meters.

The genus of snailfish belongs to the class of ray-finned fish and includes more than 300 different species.

Most of them live in fresh water bodies at shallow depths.

However, some species of snailfish have adapted to life in the cold Arctic and Antarctic waters, as well as in the deepest trenches, where living conditions are extreme due to high pressure, which at a depth of 8 km is about 80 megapascals, which is 800 times greater than the pressure at the ocean surface.
