Many people dream of having a dog, but along with the joy, it is also a huge responsibility, because it is the owner who is responsible for the health and well-being of his pet.

Together with dog trainer Diana Belyaeva, we figured out what is important to consider during the first walks with a puppy, and what is best to avoid.

Let's start with the fact that you should walk your puppy after all stages of vaccination. You need to take into account the individual needs of the puppy, its behavior, its characteristics, as well as the place where you live.

Take your puppy for walks, gradually increasing the time - the first walk can be even 5 minutes. The most important thing is to monitor the puppy's condition.

If he is interested in something, follow him, if he is studying a new object, do not interfere, if he is scared, support him. Do not pick him up unless he asks to. Dogs like control - if the puppy wants to go home, then go home. Gradually increase the time. It is better to under-walk than over-walk.

Eliminate active games: running with a ball, tagging, etc. Leave them for later. Outside, you can create an enriched environment for the puppy, offer a licking/sniffing mat, and play search games. These actions at least contribute to the puppy's confidence.

Don't rush the puppy. Support its initiative. If the puppy explores the area for a long time, don't interfere. If it doesn't want to go left, don't drag it. Follow it. The puppy should understand that it is safe outside. Don't add unnecessary excitement and limit walking on stairs for the first time.

Pay attention to the puppy's quality rest both during and after the walk. As soon as the puppy gets used to the street, you can arrange short training sessions of 1-2 minutes.
