For many people dreaming of getting a dog, the aggression of a four-legged animal can be a serious reason to abandon this idea. But, as a rule, aggression in a dog can be suppressed competently and ecologically for the animal. Helpful advice will be given by dog trainer Diana Belyaeva.
First we need to understand what aggression is. If a dog protects food, then this is normal species-typical behavior - resource protection (it is not curable).
If a dog, for example, attacks its relatives and passers-by, then here it is necessary to look for the reason and work (eliminate) it. Based on research, 70% of aggressive behavior in dogs is associated with some kind of pain.
If a dog starts to behave aggressively, the first thing you need to do is check its health.
An animal can attack when something hurts. The "hit" reaction is triggered.
If the pet is healthy, then the pet's habitat management is carried out.
Triggers are removed from his life that could provoke such behavior, if necessary, ammunition and walking routes are replaced, relaxation games are added, etc.
- If the dog is aggressive towards its relatives - avoid meeting them, change the walking route, buy reliable equipment, do not scold the dog, eliminate jerking with the leash. Then use target methods.
- If the dog is aggressive towards a family member, add pleasant time together, children communicate with the pet only under adult supervision, if necessary, put protective barriers on the doors, the main thing is not to punish or scold the dog - this will only worsen the situation.
- The dog protects food - leave the room where the animal is eating, close the door, do not provoke the dog. Next, work is done with the dog's trust in the owner.
- The dog barks at couriers and people in the entrance - meet delivery people on the street, do not use the elevator in the entrance, put on a short leash + muzzle.
- The dog is hunting - active games should be replaced with calmer ones, for example, searching; monitor the situation around you on the street, study the brake signals.
Aggression is a behavioral regulatory act. The dog uses it to remove irritants from its environment. The main thing is to find the reason for such behavior, and then move on to a long-term solution.
